3rd Annual Dark Sky Conference in Fredericksburg
It was a great day of education and collaboration at the 3rd Annual Dark Sky Conference in Fredericksburg organized by the Hill Country Alliance. My favorite part was seeing a sportsplex lighting demonstration from the IDA. Check out the before and after below of unshielded vs shielded light:
Oh the glare! Sports lighting has a pretty terrible reputation for light trespass and glare. You can still have your sports lighting and leave out the glare for sports that need upward lighting. There is a special way lighting can be changed with the shielding still on for baseball and football, two sports who need more upward lighting. I look forward to more sports lighting taking the night sky and glare into surrounding properties and communities into consideration.
