UbarU Youth Astronomy Summer Camp

I am proud to be part of The UBarU Camp and Retreat Center’s  first youth astronomy camp for youth ages 12 – 18. It will run from Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning, August 2-5, 2018. UBarU is an 142-acre licensed youth-camp facility and an IDA-certified Dark-Sky Park, located in the Texas Hill country less than 20 miles west of Kerrville, TX, and convenient to IH-10.

Over the long weekend campers will be immersed in a variety of astronomy-related activities including: nightly observing and star parties, leaning how to recognize constellations to navigate through the night sky, an introduction to imaging with smaller telescopes, solar viewing, and sky lore about the background and naming of constellations and astronomical objects. There will also be enough free time to enjoy the other amenities at UBarU such as, swimming, hiking, labyrinth walking, and any of a variety of games such as ping pong, foosball and horseshoes.

Most of the observing and imaging activities will be centered in or around the newly completed UBarU Youth Astronomical Observatory that was created primarily for youth education.
